Qualifications
- Academic Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelors degree or equivalent).
- Academic Qualifications: Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience.
- Academic Qualifications: However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
- Academic Qualifications: Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Masters or Ph.D.
- Academic Qualifications: Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelors, Masters or PH.D.

Skills
- Purpose This internship is located within the Space Applications Section (SAS) of the Information and Communications Technology and Disaster Risk Reduction Division of ESCAP.
- The internship is UNPAID and full-time for a period of three to six months, depending on the needs of the division or office.
- Qualified applicants who can commit to a longer internship duration will be preferred.
- Interns work five days per week (35 hours) in-person under the supervision of the Chief, Space Applications Section and the relevant officer/s within SAS.
- This internship is conducted in person, with the duty station located in Bangkok.
- Each intern will have a work plan which will be developed with the supervisor based on the intern’s skills and interests, educational background, and future academic/career plans.
- The intern will be working with a dynamic team.
- Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: i) Conduct research on space applications for sustainable development related to the six thematic areas covered by the Asia-Pacific Plan of Action on Space Applications for Sustainable Development, namely: (a) disaster risk management; (b) natural resource management; (c) connectivity; (d) social development; (e) energy; and (f) climate change.
- Research inputs will be used to develop various knowledge products, including UN publications, working and technical papers and the contributions of the interns will be duly acknowledged; ii) Assist in developing and/or updating digital platforms and multi-media content; iii) Provide support in the implementation of capacity development projects; and iv) Support the team in their day-to-day activities and tasks.
- Ultimate result of service ESCAP aims to support its members and associate members in harnessing the potential of harness space applications, geospatial information and digital innovations to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
- Its major thematic areas of work are monitoring drought from space; integration of geospatial information for resilience building; and space and GIS to help advance the Sustainable Development Goals.
