Qualifications

  • Academic Qualifications: Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a.
  • Academic Qualifications: Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b.
  • Academic Qualifications: Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent), c.
  • Academic Qualifications: Have graduated with Bachelor’s degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent.
  • Academic Qualifications: Be computer literate in standard software applications (MicroSoft Office Suite).
  • Academic Qualifications: Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • Academic Qualifications: Preferred areas of studies: Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Social Sciences, Graphic Design, IT or any other related field.
  • Academic Qualifications: Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
  • Academic Qualifications: However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
  • Academic Qualifications: Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Masters or Ph.D.

  • The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General.
  • We support programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference, and information services (www.unon.org).
  • This internship is located in United Nations Information Service (UNIS) and Visitors Service Department, Nairobi.
  • The multilingual team of specialists leads people on an inspiring journey through the UN’s global initiatives, helping people explore everything from environmental sustainability to human rights efforts by promoting public understanding and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations through communicating the work of the UN to a local audience in local languages, engaging local and regional partners, and, overall, bringing the United Nations closer to the people it serves.
  • The intern will be under the supervision of the Chief of United Nations Visitors Service.
  • The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.
  • Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
  • Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background, the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period.
