Position Summary :

The Seasonal Landscape Technician plays a vital role in preserving the beauty, safety, and accessibility of the Vermont Green Mountain Audubon Center throughout the spring, summer, and early fall seasons. This hands-on role ensures that trails, gardens, and public spaces are thoughtfully maintained through regular mowing, landscaping, and stewardship of wildlife habitats. The technician also supports an engaging visitor experience by maintaining clear trail access, well-stocked kiosks, and welcoming grounds for the community. Working collaboratively with staff and volunteers, this position contributes to a mission-driven environment grounded in equity, inclusion, and environmental care.

Length of Assignment: May 14, 2026 – October 16, 2026

Hours: 7 hrs/week

This role is classified as on-site at Green Mountain Audubon Center in Huntington, Vermont.

Compensation:

$19.00 / hour

Additional Job Description

Essential Functions

Responsible for weekly lawn maintenance at the Center. Weekly mowing will include several hiking trails, a playing field, picnic areas and the yard around the office building. Will also manage mower maintenance to include regular checking of gas, oil and other fluids.

Responsible for weed whacking around gardens, near educational signage and the office building on a weekly basis.

Weed whacking for specified hiking trails on a bi-weekly basis (or more often, if necessary) throughout the season.

Weekly weeding, edging, watering and general care of all wildlife gardens near the office building. More regular watering may be required if there are dry stretches of weather.

Responsible for trash removal and keeping our trailheads from the parking areas and surrounding areas of the Sugarhouse Parking Area from becoming overgrown. Position will maintain the trail heads for easy and safe access to the trails system by the public.

Responsible for ensuring trail maps and other promotional materials are fully stocked and updated at all kiosks on a weekly basis.

May work with volunteers throughout the season on various garden and/or grounds projects.

Collaborate with Audubon staff to ensure that equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging principles are incorporated and followed in all aspects of our work.

Qualifications and Experience:

Must have a valid drivers license

Must have experience operating a lawn tractor.

Experience driving a farm tractor, a plus.

Comfortable use of hand and power tools as well as the grounds maintenance equipment.

Self-motivated, detailed-oriented with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Willingness to complete physically demanding tasks for extended periods and the ability to maneuver with up to 60 lbs. with or without accommodations.

Ability to maneuver various terrain with or without accommodations.

Willingness to work outdoors in variable weather conditions on uneven terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.

Must be knowledgeable about, and committed to, the Audubon mission and the conservation of birds, other wildlife and their habitats.
