The Abortion Fund of Maryland (AFM), founded in 2014, is a nonprofit organization that assists individuals who live in or travel to Maryland for abortion care. AFM operates a confidential helpline offering financial and logistical support to help fill the gap between what clients can afford and the total cost of their abortion care. Using an intersectional reproductive justice lens, AFM works to dismantle white supremacy by removing systemic barriers people face when accessing abortion care. AFM also actively works to reduce abortion stigma within Maryland and participates in the broader conversations shaping local and state-wide policy affecting our clients. Role Summary

The Development Coordinator reports to the Development Manager, under the direction of the Co-Executive Director. The Coordinator provides essential administrative and project support to the Development and Communications department, enabling the team to function effectively and efficiently.

This position is responsible for maintaining the integrity of fundraising data, ensuring accurate gift processing and reporting, executing key components of our donor stewardship strategy, and providing logistical support for fundraising events and grants.

The position works with regular oversight to complete and solve routine and moderately complex issues that contribute to the success of the department.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising Database and Systems (30%)

  • Maintain the donor database, gift processing platforms, and mass communications tools (i.e. Little Green Light, Givebutter, and MailChimp).
  • Enter and update gifts, pledges, and donor records
  • Manage third-party donation platforms by maintaining login credentials, ensuring that all information is up to date, downloading reports, ensuring database synchronization, and troubleshooting issues
  • Update fields and regularly clean data to ensure accuracy and integrity
  • Track meeting notes, actions, and commitments
  • Create and maintain fundraising pages, appeals, and campaigns, and ensure seamless integration with the donor database
  • Support the setup and distribution of mass donor communications, including maintaining lists and ensuring database synchronization
  • Support the ongoing improvement of data management systems, processes, and reporting tools
  • Generate regular fundraising and donor reports to support revenue tracking, reconciliation, and strategic decision-making.

Donor Stewardship & Individual Giving (30%)

  • Work as part of the Development and Communications Team to implement a comprehensive donor stewardship and engagement plan
  • Prepare and send timely, personalized acknowledgement letters, thank you notes, and tax receipts to donors
  • Review and update acknowledgment templates and donation page language on a quarterly basis
  • Conduct prospect research and prepare briefing materials to support donor meetings and engagement opportunities
  • Coordinate and execute donor stewardship and outreach activities through phone calls, direct mail, and digital correspondence
  • Track stewardship touchpoints and ensure accurate documentation in the CRM
  • Contribute to Individual Giving campaign planning and implementation

Event Coordination (15%)

  • Provide administrative and logistical support for development events throughout the year
  • Research and secure venues, create timelines, and manage vendor relationships for select virtual and in-person events
  • Attend select events and assist with event set-up, breakdown, check-in/registration, and troubleshoot to ensure a seamless experience
  • Handle invitations, manage registration lists, assist with event promotion, prepare event briefings, and provide post-event reports

Grant Support (15%)

  • Provide administrative support for grant proposals and reports, ensuring that all submissions are accurately formatted and include all required information, including budgets and supporting materials
  • Monitor and update the institutional funding calendar and ensure adherence to deadlines for grant applications and reports
  • Assist with research on institutional funders, as needed
  • Conduct prospect research and prepare briefing materials to support foundation meetings and engagement opportunities

Administrative Support (10%)

  • Serve as the primary contact for the department by responding in a timely manner to internal and external inquiries
  • Collect mail from Baltimore City PO box on a weekly basis and deposit checks into bank account and record in database
  • Track donations and deposits for support monthly income reconciliation
  • Organize and maintain department files, including appeals, contracts, award letters, grant agreements, donor correspondence, etc.
  • Maintain inventory of office and event supplies
  • Assist with other projects as assigned

Remote Work Expectations

This is a full-time, primarily remote role with an expectation of 32 hours per week, following a Monday through Thursday schedule from 9:00 AM 5:00 PM Eastern Time. This position requires sustained computer use and the ability to work in a remote, technology-enabled environment

While this position is primarily remote, it does include routine in-person responsibilities, such as:

  • Collecting and processing mail from a Baltimore City P.O. Box weekly
  • Attending monthly all-staff meetings and quarterly team-building activities
  • Supporting on-site fundraising and donor outreach events, including setup, breakdown, and registration. These events are typically quarterly.
  • Participating in occasional in-person training or project planning sessions
  • Accessing office files or materials needed for fundraising, grant, or donor database tasks

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience in fundraising, development operations, nonprofit management, or a related field
  • Experience working with donor databases, CRM systems, or fundraising platforms (Little Green Light strongly preferred)
  • Commitment to AFMs mission, vision, and values
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, creative, and able to work independently and collaboratively on a small team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Familiarity with the work of abortion funds; statewide reproductive health, rights, and justice movements; or local issues regarding abortion access
