Job Summary

This consultancy provides an opportunity to contribute specialized expertise to United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat)’s mission in sustainable urban development, housing rights, and urban planning. Working in Brazil, you will apply your professional skills to address complex challenges in sustainable urban development, housing rights, and urban planning and support the organization’s programmatic objectives. This role offers the flexibility of consultancy work while contributing to meaningful international development outcomes with global impact.

Qualifications

  • Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, and Spanish is the working language of the Regional Office.
  • Language: For the post advertised, fluency in Portuguese is required. Working knowledge of English or Spanish is desirable.
  • Experience: Professionalism: Experience working in an inter-institutional environment, project management, monitoring-evaluation. approaches and strategies regarding good urban governance and local and regional development.
  • Experience: The person must know the processes, procedures, and norms of UN-Habitat, to guarantee an adequate quality of the activities described above, following the standards of the organization.

Skills

  • A minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in project/programme management on urban related themes in Brazil is required.
  • Experience in social housing policies, plans, and projects is required.
  • Experience in sustainable urbanization for informal settlements is required.
  • Professional experience in geometric design, earthmoving/land, and paving projects is required.
  • Experience in planning, design, and/or work in informal settlements is desirable.
  • Experience in budget for urban infrastructure projects is desirable.
  • Experience in development of road system containment geometry projects is desirable.
  • Experience in development of slope containment and stabilization projects is desirable.
  • Experience in drainage is desirable.
  • Experience in the development of land-use projects is desirable.
  • Previous experience within the UN System is desirable. Skills:
  • Good computer skills in Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and Web search engines are required.
  • Good handling of technological tools and use of software and online platforms is desirable.
  • Good knowledge of project management methodologies is desirable. Competencies
  • Planning and organization: Professional approach to work, strong sense of responsibility, operate with minimal supervision. Proven organizational skills and ability to manage a workload efficiently and within set deadlines.
