Jewish Currentsis seeking a full-time Audience Editor to leadJewish Currentsaudience growth strategy. The person in this role will be responsible for growing ouraudience, deepening our engagement with current readers, and measuring all of the above. They will overseeJewish Currentssocial media presence, newsletters, and other audience-facing channels. Along with tracking and interpreting audience metrics, they will communicate insights about our readership to our staff in order to inform organizational decision-making. This is a new position, and is ideal for a person who is passionate about audience strategy and excited about the possibility of using their expertise to helpJewish Currentsgrow.

Who We Are

Founded in 1946,Jewish Currentsis a magazine committed to the rich tradition of thought, activism, and culture on the Jewish left and the left more broadly. We cover a wide variety of topics, including the uses and misuses of antisemitism, the inner workings of Jewish communal organizations, Israel/Palestine politics on the ground and internationally, race and racialization, strategies and horizons of American left movements, the global rise of the far right, diasporic cultural expression, labor, climate, incarceration, immigration, and feminism.

You do not have to be Jewish to be right for this job, and we invite candidates from a broad range of backgrounds who are invested in and familiar with our work.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a strategy for growing, retaining, and deepening engagement withJewish Currentsaudience across platforms, including (but not limited to) social media, newsletters, and emerging channels.
  • OverseeJewish Currentssocial media accounts, including Instagram, X (for now), and others.
  • DevelopJewish Currents‘ email strategy with an eye towards both growth and serving our readers’ needs.
  • In collaboration with the editorial team and other stakeholders, develop and support the execution of a strategy forJewish Currentsvideo content.
  • Work with editors to translate editorial work into compelling social content.
  • Stay attuned to platform changes and best practices in audience development and updateJewish Currents‘ audience strategy accordingly.
  • Track, analyze, and interpret audience data across platforms including web, social, and email.
  • Regularly communicate audience insights to editorial and organizational teams, helping inform editorial strategy, programming, and institutional decision-making.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in audience development, engagement, social media editing, marketing, or similar role
  • Deep familiarity with social media and email platforms, expertise on current best practices in audience development, and demonstrated experience using the available tools to grow audiences
  • Comfort with tracking and interpreting audience metrics and analytics, and experience translating data into clear insights and recommendations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong initiative and comfort with self-direction
  • Ability to multitask and to thrive in fast-paced environments with shifting tasks and priorities
  • Familiarity with some or all of our beats: American Jewish politics, Jewish art and culture, left politics and/or Israel/Palestine.

Location and Team Structure

This position can be remote or hybrid, with a preference for candidates based in New York City. This position will work with editors and organizational staff, and report to the Deputy Publisher.

This is a position covered under the Writers Guild of America, East Collective Bargaining Agreement.
