Job Description:

BU-GATA, a non-profit community-based organization, runs outreach and education programs for renters and an after-school program for young people in the Buckingham neighborhood in Arlington, VA. The goal of this program is to encourage civic and leadership development of youth and their families in this Arlington, Virginia, neighborhood. The project fosters civic responsibility by addressing community problems, building self-esteem, and developing interpersonal skills. Youth participate in weekly workshops, planned activities, and community outreach.

Job Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement a community-based youth program for the Buckingham neighborhood.
  • Schedule, plan & implement workshops, monthly activities, and monitor the performance of youth
  • Track and evaluate participants’ progress, program’s impact, and outcomes
  • Prepare written reports and program evaluations
  • Recruit new participants and work with the youth to implement community programs
  • Recruit volunteers to serve as mentors, tutors, and supporters for youth
  • Act as liaison with parents, community groups, and others
  • Assist and connect community members to services
  • Plan and coordinate workshops for parents and community members

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Skills at organizing various activities, educational programs, or programs that teach skills to young people and their families
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to motivate & manage people
  • Ability to resolve problems with limited resources
  • Writing skills to prepare reports, proposals, develop work plans, and track the progress of the program
  • Education: 4-year degree from an accredited institution
  • Experience working with immigrant communities and grass-roots community organizations is a plus
  • Available for weekend and night workshops and meetings
  • Computer literate and social media skills
