The Village of Love and Resistance (VOLAR) is a Black led grassroots organization facilitating resident-led community development. Our mission is to co-create a cooperative community in East Baltimore owned by Black and Brown people. We seek to build this cooperative community through the reclamation of land, healing, reconnecting and building a base of community power.

Scope of work:
VOLAR is seeking a Data Organizer to support our grassroots organizing for building a base of community leaders informed from good data entry, analysis and management.
Areas of Work
The major areas of work for the Data Organizer include:
Support VOLAR working Committees through regular data entry, management, and mass outreach including

- Own Our Hood Program
- Base building and membership development
- Food Mutual Aid Program
- Other VOLAR programs as needed
Coordinate (Bottomline) Social Media and Website

- Regularly generate content for VOLARs social media and website
- Create and distribute press releases for VOLAR events
- Conduct media trainings with members
- Conduct outreach and develop relationships with local media outlets and journalists
Coordinate (Bottomline) VOLAR Databases

- Manage and update VOLARs Google and Nationbuilder databases
- Transition VOLAR from Google Database to Nationbuilder database
- Regularly assure up-to-date status of databases
Education/Training:
-
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, statistics, or a related field is the standard minimum requirement.
- Several years of experience in entry-level data roles
Required experience/qualifications:
- Database management: Proficiency with database management software and concepts
- Expertise in some form of SQL for data organization and manipulation.
- Data security: Knowledge of data protection regulations and best practices
- Data analysis: Skills in data analysis, statistics, and data visualization for effective interpretation and data presentation.
- Problem-solving: The ability to troubleshoot issues and find solutions
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to explain findings to community stakeholders and work with teams.
- Organizational skills: high degree of organization to create and maintain small to large datasets.
- Attention to detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
- Project management: Ability to plan, execute, and complete data-related projects
- Time Management
Preferred experience/qualifications:
- Experience working with mission focused organizations
- Lived or worked in Baltimore area communities for at least one year
- Commitment to VOLARs mission around building community rooted in healing, wellness, and cooperation
- Ability to work some evenings and weekend hours
- Ability to understand or identify with the experience of poor and working class people
- Willingness to engage oneself and engage with the shared leadership team in honest, constructive, mindful, and compassionate self-reflection and self-criticism
- Non-violent communication skills
- Telephone Etiquette
- Experience and/or ability to approach problem-solving, and crisis intervention from a love perspective (find ways to resolve issues without calling police/agencies when possible)
