Crushing Colonialism is a small, but growing Indigenous founded and operated non-profit organization (501c3) based in the so-called US that uses traditional Indigenous storytelling as a tool to honor and uplift Indigeneity. Were currently looking for a part-time contract Accounts Payable and Receivable Associate for an average of 5 hours weekly over two to three days per week for $600 USD monthly. This is a remote position so you must have reliable access to the internet.
Accounts Payable and Receivable Associate manages all accounts payable and accounts receivable functions for Crushing Colonialism. Responsibilities include issuing invoices to clients and funders, reviewing and verifying incoming invoices for accuracy and completeness, communicating with contractors and vendors to resolve discrepancies, categorizing and approving expenses in coordination with the bookkeeper, processing payments including domestic and international transfers via ACH, wire, PayPal, and Western Union, and liaising with banking institutions and payment platforms to resolve account issues and facilitate transactions.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounts Payable & Receivable Operations
- Oversee the end-to-end operations of the accounts payable process, including invoice processing, payment runs, and expense report management.
- Ensure all payments are processed accurately, in a timely manner, and in compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
- Review and approve large or complex invoices and payments.
- Confirm receipt of incoming payments and proper bookkeeping coding.
- Enforce accounts payable and receivable policies and procedures.
- Participate in monthly accounts payable meetings to review and process payments.
- Troubleshoot payment platform issues, including managing dispute resolution processes with banks and platforms
- Coordinate with the bookkeeper to ensure transactions are properly documented and recorded in QuickBooks.
Vendor Management
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers.
- Resolve escalated vendor issues, discrepancies, or disputes effectively and professionally.
- Ensure accurate vendor records, including banking information and tax documents (e.g., W-9s).
Compliance and Internal Controls
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, including sales/use tax and 1099 reporting requirements.
- Maintain proper documentation for all financial transactions.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in U.S. non-profit accounting, finance, bookkeeping or a related field
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
- Basic understanding of U.S. non-profit accounting principles, financial regulations, and tax compliance
- Proficient in the use of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online) and payment platforms (e.g., Wise, PayPal)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
EXPERIENCE
- Proven experience in accounts payable and receivable, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
- Experience processing domestic and international payments preferred
- Non-profit experience required

- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to troubleshoot issues as they arise independently
