The Young Peoples Chorus of New York City (YPC) is a multicultural youth chorus internationally renowned for its superb virtuosity, brilliant showmanship, and innovative model of diversity. Founded by Artistic Director Francisco J. Nunez, a MacArthur Fellow and Musical Americas 2018 Educator of the Year, YPCs mission and values are deeply rooted in providing children of all cultural and economic backgrounds with a unique music education program and choral performance. YPC is committed to empowering youth and providing pathways to success through the arts so that each child, regardless of race, gender, socioeconomic background, or religion, can reach their full potential. Today, YPCs 2,000 choristers perform on NYCs celebrated stages and travel around the world as cultural ambassadors. Position Overview

YPC seeks a Part-time (3 days a week), highly organized and entrepreneurial individual to join our development team. The Development Associate will play a vital role in supporting all of YPCs development and outreach activities to ensure the success of the organizations fundraising goals. The individual will report to the Director of Development and works closely with all members of the Development and Finance teams, as well as other staff members. This position will help manage all funding streams and is ideal for someone who likes to maintain a database system, increase efficiency, problem-solve, and has a can do approach. It will involve robust writing and research skills, attention to detail, and professionalism on all communication channels.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Development:

  • Assist with execution of YPC donor communications, including the Winter and Spring Appeal, Gala, and other email communication, web content, and PowerPoint presentations
  • Research and identify prospective foundation and corporate grant opportunities aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Write, edit, and submit compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry (LOIs), and budgets and other supporting materials.
  • Assist in developing grant strategy to diversify institutional funding streams
  • Assist with the preparation, implementation, and coordination of all special events
  • Provide assistance to the Development Committee of the Board and other Board Members involved in advancement activities on an as needed basis
  • Create flyers, brochures and other promotional materials to support development and outreach events.

Database Management:

  • Oversee and maintain YPCs Salesforce donor database, cultivate methods/protocols and confirm compliance and consistency in order to maintain clean donor records.
  • Process incoming checks, online credit cards, and other donations in Salesforce.
  • Maintain accuracy of gift donations, investigate discrepancies and reconcile donation records with the Finance department.
  • Create and send acknowledgment letters to donors in a timely manner.
  • Enter and update donor contact information with appropriate constituent codes and attributes.
  • Run donor and mailing list reports as needed

Administrative:

  • Manage the departments calendar ensuring all deadlines are recorded and met
  • Provide administrative and operations support to the Development department such as answering donors inquiries via phone call and email, inventorying promotional materials and other tasks as needed.
  • Attend and participate in organizational and departmental events as necessary

Qualifications Required:

A bachelors degree and a minimum of two years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, communications, marketing or equivalent experience. The ideal person should be highly motivated with a self-starter attitude and have the ability to consistently achieve results with excellence. The ideal candidate should possess the following strengths:

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across the organization

  • Capacity to execute detail-oriented work independently and with accuracy
  • Exceptional writing skills; excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Solid research and proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace
  • Ability to work in a team setting
  • Willingness to learn new skills and systems to support the growth of the team
  • Experience with Salesforce is a must
  • Understanding various graphic design and marketing platforms like MailChimp and Canva is a plus
  • Strong administrative and organizational abilities with a proven track record of time and project management skills, handling multiple deadlines at once
  • Critical thinking skills that can be applied to effectively problem-solve and anticipate the next steps and potential barriers
  • Sensitivity and discretion with handling confidential information
  • Positive attitude and willingness to be adaptable to dynamic needs
