TheInternational Cinematographers Guild, IATSE Local 600(ICG 600) is the largest camera and publicist union in the world, representing over 9,500 members working in camera and publicity crafts across the United States. We are a National Local of the International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees (IATSE), with a professional staff of approximately seventy and offices in Los Angeles, New York City, Atlanta, and Chicago.

Applications are now being accepted for the exempt, confidential position ofGeneral Counsel. This position will be based out of our National Office in Hollywood, California, with an anticipated start date of May 2026.

SALARY

$170,000 $250,000 annually (FLSA Exempt) commensurate with experience.

POSITION SUMMARY

The General Counsel serves as the Guilds chief in-house legal advisor, providing legal advice to elected officers, the National Executive Board, and professional staff. The General Counsel is responsible for representing ICG 600 in arbitrations, contract negotiations, administrative hearings, and California courts, and for advising on collective bargaining, internal governance, employment, and compliance matters.

This is a full-time position requiring availability for travel and evening and weekend work as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) required
  • Admission to a state bar in good standing; ability to practice law in California required
  • Minimum eight (8) years experience representing labor unions in California
  • Excellent legal research, writing, advocacy, and communication skills
  • Experience representing unions in arbitrations and administrative proceedings, including NLRB matters preferred
  • Expertise in employment discrimination and wage and hour law preferred
  • Entertainment industry legal experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to the labor movement

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advise and assist elected Guild officers, National Executive Board members, and professional staff, including public presentations to large groups
  • Act as primary legal counsel on grievances, collective bargaining negotiations, contract administration and enforcement, unfair labor practices, and other collective bargaining related matters
  • Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, position statements, and strategic guidance
  • Represent ICG 600 in administrative proceedings, arbitrations, and California courts as needed
  • Supervise and coordinate with outside counsel as necessary
  • Supervise the Human Resources Department
  • Act as lead counsel on internal governance matters, including oversight of officer and board elections
  • Travel as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

LICENSE AND PHYSICAL CLASS

A valid Drivers License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS

This position is classified as exempt, confidential / non-affiliated, and not subject to the terms and conditions of a collective bargaining agreement. Excellent starting salary, commensurate with experience within the stated range, and an excellent benefits package. Employment will be subject to the terms of an individual employment agreement approved by the Guild.
