Job Title: Communications Manager (Part-Time)

Location:Remote, must be based in New York State, with preference for candidates in the NYC area

Position Overview
This role involves internal and external communications across the Foundations various activities (for example: Fundraising, Programs, Board Development). In particular, it involves donor stewardship and social media growth. The successful candidate will also be comfortable working directly with donors as needed, particularly in virtual meetings and over email.
This position is particularly suited to a candidate with some familiarity with the media, advertising, or communications sectors, as these industries are our historical (and still largest) corporate donor base.
Candidates based in NYC are preferred, but those based in other locations in New York State may be considered. Attendance at the November gala and December annual meeting of the board are mandatory; in-person attendance at other events may be required as well.
There is some flexibility in scheduling of working hours. Candidates who are based in New York City have the option to work out of our office in Flatiron.
Key Responsibilities
Donor Relations & Fundraising Support
- Support donor outreach campaigns, including appeals and event solicitations.
- Steward donors through personalized thank-yous and similar relationship-building touchpoints.
- Prepare donor lists, briefing documents, meeting materials, and event collateral.
- Assist with two major annual fundraising initiatives:
- A televised fundraising special over July 4 weekend, with a multi-week campaign leading up to it.
- Our annual November gala in NYC (attendance required), supported by a multi-month fundraising campaign, including Giving Tuesday and end of year fundraising.
- Research and submit grant proposals.
Strategic Communications & Social Media
- Develop and implement a social media strategy with a clear focus on growth, engagement, and conversion to fundraising.
- Work with the board Communications committee to produce high-quality social media content.
- Track analytics and performance metrics; adjust content strategy accordingly.
- Work with the board Communications committee on public relations initiatives.
- Manage quarterly newsletter
Administration
- Because we are a small team, some participation in administrative tasks is required of all staff positions.
Qualifications
Required
- Demonstrated track record of growing social media engagement with measurable results in fundraising or sales.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- 24 years of experience in development, communications, marketing, or related fields.
- Proficiency with social media platforms and basic design/video tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Express).
- Familiarity with New York City neighborhoods, communities, and issues (even if currently based elsewhere).
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, and time management.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Preferred
- Familiarity with the media, advertising, or communications industries.
- Experience with donor databases or similar software.
- Previous nonprofit experience or demonstrated interest in the sector.
Compensation & Schedule
- Part-time (20 hours/week).
- Somewhat flexible working hours; a majority of work may be completed remotely.
- Occasional in-person requirements for NYC-area events.
Compensation: $50,000 per year with $10,000 discretionary bonus at year-end.
