About the Position
The Editorial Manager is Rainforest Foundation USs (RFUSs) lead writer and editor, responsible for shaping how the organization communicates its mission and impact.
This role leads the messaging strategy in support of RFUSs 2030 strategy and goals. The Editorial Manager creates compelling content that helps raise funds needed to expand RFUSs work and increase its impact for Indigenous peoples, forests, and climate.
The Editorial Manager will report to the Director of the Communications department and will work closely with the rest of the Communications team. The Editorial Manager will also collaborate closely with members of the Programs and Development teams.
Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Content and Storytelling
- Translate organizational strategy, program work, and impact into compelling content and stories that drive fundraising, engagement, and visibility.
- Manage RFUS editorial calendar and production timelines.
- Lead the development, editorial review, and fact-checking of high-impact content that accurately and respectfully centers Indigenous leadership, land rights, and forest protection.
- Ensure consistency in message, tone, and branding in outgoing communications across all platforms and programs (blogs, fundraising communications, white papers, organizational materials/presentations, videos, images, social media posts, etc).
- Lead website content strategy and implementation in support of organizational priorities in close collaboration with the Digital Communications Manager.
- Support the growth and engagement of the organizations social media audience.
- Work closely with the Programs team and Communications team members to develop compelling narratives and stories that highlight the impact of our work and the ongoing challenges, successes, and opportunities.
- Lead periodic updates to the RFUS style guide and ensure RFUS content adheres to RFUSs style guide to produce high-quality and error-free copy.
Fundraising:
- Collaborate with the Fundraising team to develop key messaging and storytelling for major fundraising campaigns.
- Develop donor-centered messaging in communications content that show how contributions directly fuel impact.
- Collaborate with the Fundraising team to create compelling appeals, proposals, reports and campaign narratives as needed.
Media:
- Lead media relations, including securing media placement that supports RFUS and partner initiatives.
- Draft op-eds, press releases, statements, relevant website content, and talking points for staff.
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists and key external role-players.
- Develop and implement a strategy to engage key influencers to reach our target audiences.
- Develop and maintain earned media lists and keep media contact lists up to date.
- Coordinate and oversee press trips with journalists to RFUS geographies as needed.
- Serve as a key spokesperson for RFUS.
Communications Team Strategy:
- Co-lead the development and execution of RFUSs annual communication strategy in support of our 2030 goals. Identify key audiences, messaging, channels, and focus on activities, actions, and products with highest impact. Set clear, measurable goals for the role that align with the organization’s strategic plan.
- Manage any assigned budget and collaborate in the development of the annual department budget.
- Regularly track key performance indicators (KPIs) and use data analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns and inform future decisions.
- Collaborate closely with the Development team, Programs team, and organizational leadership to align messaging with fundraising, advocacy, and program goals.

Requirements
- Exceptional English writing and editing abilities, including writing clearly, concisely, and effectively in various formats (e.g., press releases, social media, formal reports, feature stories).
- Ability to translate strategy and programs into inspiring, donor-centered stories.
- Knowledge of common style guides (e.g., AP or Chicago Manual of Style) is required.
- Fluency in Spanish is required, and Portuguese is a plus. Note: The majority of content will be produced in English, but Spanish fluency is required to effectively engage with our Spanish-speaking staff and partners.
- Highly developed project management and organizational skills to work on multiple projects and campaigns simultaneously. Be detail-oriented and able to deliver high-quality outputs on time.
- Significant experience in communications campaigns and marketing is needed.
- Experience working with communications tools, social media platforms, data analysis tools, and digital marketing strategies for engaging audiences. Google Workspace tools are used across the organization.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and proven track record of successful collaboration with internal staff and external stakeholders, partners, and media.
