Job Summary

This Programme Management Officer position offers an exciting opportunity to lead and coordinate critical programmes within United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)’s environmental protection, climate action, and sustainable development portfolio. Based in France, you will oversee programme implementation, manage stakeholder relationships, and ensure the delivery of high-quality results that advance the organization’s strategic objectives. You will be responsible for programme planning, monitoring and evaluation, resource mobilization, and coordination with government partners, civil society, and other UN agencies. Qualifications

  • Advanced university degree (Masters degree or equivalent) in environmental or atmospheric science, physics, chemical engineering, or a related area is required. A first level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For th is job opening, English is required.   • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in methane science, with a focus on methane emissions measurements at the national and international level is required. Experience in managing and coordinating multi-stakeholder methane science research, including fieldwork, data collection, modeling, and peer-reviewed dissemination, in collaboration with academia, governments, NGOs, and the private sector is required Experience in working on scientific research on diverse methane emissions sources (energy, agriculture, waste sectors) is required. Experience in working on methane measurement technologies including satellite, aerial, ground-based measurement from diverse methane sources is required. Experience in working on providing methane scientific data for policy frame works is required. Experience in project management including budget oversight and donor reporting for science-based initiatives is required. Experience in working with satellite-based and airborne methane detection (e.g., TROPOMI, GHGSat, other similar space borne technologies, UAV or airborne based sensors) and/or ground/airborne sensor net works is desirable. Experience in working with methane data platforms, reporting frame works, and transparency mechanisms for methane is desirable. Two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable
