Job Summary

This Programme Management Officer position offers an exciting opportunity to lead and coordinate critical programmes within United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)’s environmental protection, climate action, and sustainable development portfolio. Based in Panama, you will oversee programme implementation, manage stakeholder relationships, and ensure the delivery of high-quality results that advance the organization’s strategic objectives. You will be responsible for programme planning, monitoring and evaluation, resource mobilization, and coordination with government partners, civil society, and other UN agencies. This role is ideal for experienced professionals with strong leadership skills, programme management expertise, and a commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection.

Qualifications

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Engineering, Environment, Energy, Economics, Law or related fields is required. A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of relevant qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For th is job opening, English and Spanish are required.   • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in the area of climate change mitigation (non-land use) is required. Experience in developing, implementing and evaluating climate change mitigation (non-land use) projects financed by International donors in Latin America is required. Experience in managing a portfolio of climate change mitigation (non-land use) projects financed by international donors in multiple Latin Ameri can countries is required. Experience with resource mobilization through writing and securing approval of climate change mitigation (non-land-use) projects for international donors in Latin America and the Caribbean is required. Working experience in an international and multi-cultural setting, such as the United Nations System or similar international organization is desirable. Experience in working with the Global Environment Facility (GEF) is desirable. Two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable
