We offer small business development programs, culinary skills training, and job placement, bolstered by individualized wraparound supportive services. Our small business program, HBK Incubates, supports entrepreneurs as they transform their food businesses into sustainable income sources. Culinary Fundamentals, our award-winning culinary training program provides access to high-quality jobs for those starting their careers in the food industry. Our upskilling programs enable incumbent workers to gain further skills leading to higher wages and career advancement. We work diligently alongside our network of over 200 food employer partners and more than 250 nonprofit and government partners to ensure our graduates are set up for success both at home and in their careers.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Institutional Partnerships Manager will be a self-directed, innovative team player with a strong capacity to build relationships with external stakeholders and communicate the organizations mission. This role will manage a portfolio of 100+ institutional funders and take a holistic and personalized approach to cultivating and stewarding each of these relationships. The Institutional Partnerships Manager will be part of a high-performing Development Team responsible for Hot Bread Kitchens $10M+ in philanthropic revenue. Reporting to the Director of Institutional Partnerships, the ideal candidate will be excited to collaborate across this team on larger fundraising initiatives, as well as working independently to raise $2M+ through their own portfolio annually.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Institutional Fundraising (80%)

  • Oversee a portfolio of 100+ institutional donors and be the primary lead for determining their moves management cycle, from prospecting to cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. This includes both personally owning relationships with donors and managing up for relationships held by the Director of Institutional Partnerships, VP of Development, and Executive Team.
  • With the Director of Institutional Partnerships, work on developing institutional fundraising goals for the year and an action plan to meet them. Use data to reassess strategy when needed.
  • Take a leadership role on engaging institutional donors in fundraising-related events, in collaboration with the Volunteer Manager and Events Manager. Events include volunteering opportunities like mock interviews, and other engagement events like cooking classes, donor cultivation dinners, and Hot Bread Kitchens annual benefit.
  • Prepare for and lead meetings and site visits with funders at Hot Bread Kitchens Chelsea Market space and our Outpost locations across the city, as well as supporting those led by senior members of the team. Preparation will include making meeting plans, drafting talking points, and liaising with the Programs Team to coordinate necessary logistics.
  • Write compelling and clear institutional fundraising materials, including grant proposals, reports, and sponsorship decks. Strategically edit and provide feedback on existing materials to tailor them to specific donors. Collaborate with the Programs Team, as well as with the Institutional Partnerships Coordinator, to craft written and lead verbal communications with funders that convey the organizations mission and connect it to the funder’s philanthropic goals.

Project Management, Data Tracking, and Research (20%)

  • Use Salesforce to manage relationship-building and stewardship across your portfolio, including tracking next steps for each donor, logging meetings, and updating funder accounts with accurate primary contacts, background information, and opportunities that reflect funding we are pursuing from each.
  • Work closely with Programs Team (and other teams across the org as needed) to create strong fundraising materials and ensure institutional grant compliance, by holding meetings to align on grant deliverables, and ensuring that all grant deliverables and requirements are met and tracked for reporting purposes.
  • Work with the Finance Team to create grant budgets as needed, and possess a strong understanding of funding needs by program area across the organization.
  • Collaborate on prospecting with the Institutional Partnerships Coordinator, especially to convert prospects to first-time donors.
  • Manage team-wide quarterly communications to funders across the portfolio, including drafting templates for donor correspondence and strategically planning a calendar for donor communications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Passion and commitment to Hot Bread Kitchens mission and core programs.
  • Enjoys being a part of a highly collaborative, entrepreneurial team, with a keen sense of being a good team player.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of progressive fundraising experience with expertise in institutional development: you must have successfully solicited and stewarded a portfolio of corporate, foundation and/or government funders, securing five-figure+ gifts.
  • Ability to effectively grow, deepen, and advance donors at all stages of a relationship.
  • Must have excellent writing and verbal communication skills; able to translate complex concepts into strategic and compelling proposal narratives and craft stories to inspire funders.
  • Ability to make decisions that are supported by both experience and data analysis.
  • Self-motivated problem solver with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet rolling and evolving deadlines.
  • Experience working with CRM and project management tools (we use Salesforce, Slack, Asana and Google Workplace) preferred.
  • Bachelors Degree (required).

LOCATION AND HOURS

This is a hybrid position, with flexibility to work remotely. Regular in-person attendance is required at least two days a week. Our facility is located in Chelsea Market, 75 Ninth Avenue, in Manhattan. Attendance at events at partner sites across New York City is also required.

COMPENSATION

This is a full-time position with a salary range between $75,000 – $84,000 commensurate with experience.
