The Senior Manager of Communications is the primary steward of the Free Arts NYC brand voice and digital presence. This role executes a consistent storytelling strategy that engages donors, volunteers, and partners through high-end visual and narrative consistency. By managing the full lifecycle of digital contentfrom capturing event imagery to designing high-conversion donation pagesthe Senior Manager of Communications ensures that every touchpoint with the organization is professional, impactful, mission-aligned, and actionable.

Key Responsibilities

1. Social Media & Community Engagement (40%)

Social Strategy: Design and execute a comprehensive year-round social media strategy to grow the organization’s reach, drive engagement, and support donor acquisition.

Active Account Management: Monitor and respond to all comments, DMs, and tagged posts across all of the organizations social media accounts; actively engage with partners by reposting content and responding to relevant news in the arts and nonprofit sectors.

Scheduling & Execution: Manage the year-round editorial calendar and use a content management system to schedule posts across all platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).

Collaborative Content: Execute collab posts with corporate and brand partners to maximize cross-promotional visibility.

Growth & Engagement: Design data-driven strategies to grow the organization’s digital reach and deepen engagement with the Free Arts community.

2. Visual Content & Asset Creation (30%)

Event Photography: Attend program events, Art Parties, and Free Arts Days to capture high-quality photos and video for immediate and future use.

Creative Assets: Provide design support for digital and print assets, ensuring brand consistency across social media, email campaigns, and marketing collateral.

Stakeholder Toolkits: Create persuasive, turnkey email and social media copy and assets for the Board of Directors and Patron Circle to use for major campaigns.

Asset Management: Maintain and manage a comprehensive digital asset management system, ensuring all images and videos are properly archived, tagged, and accessible to the team.

3. Multi-Channel Communications & Support (20%)

Donation Page Development: Design, build, and optimize dedicated donation pages for appeals, the Annual Gala, peer-to-peer campaignse.g., for marathons and half-marathonsand specific program initiatives; ensure a seamless, mobile-friendly user experience.

Email Marketing: Lead the production of the monthly newsletter and specialized email appeals; manage list segmentation and performance tracking.

Runner Communications: In partnership with the Development Operations Associate, draft and execute targeted updates and fundraising support for marathon and half-marathon runners.

Website Management: Serve as the primary editor of the website, ensuring all organizational and event information are current.

4. Leadership & Internal Support (10%)

Creative Workflow Management: Oversee the production lifecycle of visual assets, coordinating with internal and external creative resources to ensure all materials meet brand standards and project deadlines.

Event Execution & Support: Support the logistics and day-of production for signature volunteer events, including Free Arts Days and Art Parties, as needed to ensure high-quality, mission-aligned execution.

Team Collaboration: Work in lockstep with the Development and Program teams to ensure communications align with revenue goals and programmatic reality; attend and actively contribute to staff and Development meetings.

Other Duties: Support with additional tasks and special projects as requested.

Qualifications & Skills

3-4+ years in communications, social media management, or digital marketing.

Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously and successfully.

Demonstrates excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.

Experience with nonprofit giving platforms (e.g., GoFundMe Pro, Funraise, Givebutter).

Proficiency with Canva and email marketing platforms; familiarity with Salesforce (or other CRMs), Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign), and CMS management (Squarespace).
