About PILI

The Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) engages, inspires, and empowers those advancing equal access to justice. Through its programs, PILI partners with law firms, corporations, law schools, and nonprofit organizations to strengthen pro bono and public interest law across Illinois.

PILIs team of ten staff members works collaboratively to support a legal community committed to serving individuals, families, and communities in need.

Position Overview

The Intake & Program Support Associate supports PILIs Pro Bono Program by coordinating client intake, assisting with case placement with volunteer attorneys, supporting legal clinic operations, and maintaining program data.

This role is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in legal services, nonprofit work, or access-to-justice initiatives.

Responsibilities

    • Conduct intake interviews with prospective clients to gather information and identify potential legal issues
    • Screen and track incoming cases and assist with placement with pro bono attorneys
    • Communicate with clients and volunteers regarding case progress and next steps
    • Maintain and organize client files and program data
    • Assist with planning and implementation of virtual and in-person legal clinics statewide
    • Support recruitment, onboarding, and engagement of pro bono volunteers
    • Assist with data collection, research, and program evaluation
    • Provide administrative support for program operations
    • Assist in preparing internal and external program reports

Qualifications

    • Associate degree or equivalent professional experience in legal support or client-facing roles
    • Experience with legal services organizations serving low-income communities preferred
    • Strong communication and organizational skills
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small nonprofit environment
    • Commitment to culturally competent and empathetic client service
    • Spanish language skills preferred but not required
    • Experience with case management systems (such as LegalServer) preferred
    • Valid drivers license and ability to travel and occasionally work evenings/weekends with advance notice
