THE OPPORTUNITY Work-model: Hybrid Employment Type: Full Time Reporting to the Lead, Financial Accounting Modernization, the Intermediate Accountant is a critical member of the Accounting group within Shared Services. This role is responsible for accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, maintaining the integrity of the trial balance, and supporting month-end and year-end close processes. The role collaborates closely with internal stakeholders and external partners, including auditors and banks, to ensure compliance, strengthen internal controls, and contribute to process improvements that enhance efficiency and accuracy across the finance function. WAYS YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE Lead and execute month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and account analysis. Support external audits (enterprise-wide and branch level) by preparing working papers and providing required documentation. Assist in statutory and tax compliance, including direct and indirect tax filings and audit preparation. Monitor and record bank transactions; prepare and reconcile period bank statements. Maintain and account for tangible and intangible assets, software implementation assets, prepaids, accounts payable, tax payable, accruals, and other liabilities. Support accounting for corporate credit card transactions and prepare related schedules. Investigate, resolve, and reconcile account discrepancies to ensure accurate financial reporting. Manage relationships with external parties such as banks and auditors. Leverage technology to improve accounting efficiency, strengthen internal controls, and maintain cybersecurity awareness. Contribute to the development and implementation of new processes, internal controls, and streamlined reporting practices. Document and update standard operating procedures, policies, and training materials. Support onboarding, mentoring, and training of new team members, fostering a collaborative and technically proficient team environment. WHO YOU ARE Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Relevant professional accounting qualification (CPA, CA, ACCA) or enrollment in a CPA program. 37 years of relevant experience in similar organizations with exposure to full-cycle accounting. Strong knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, and financial reporting standards (IFRS, ASNPO, ASPE; GAAP and IPSAS knowledge is an asset). Excellent accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills. Ability to meet reporting deadlines and work across time zones (Africa). Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (intermediateadvanced), Teams, BI, Office Connect; Workday ERP experience is a plus. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; able to present financial information to diverse stakeholders. High integrity, cultural sensitivity, and maturity in a multi-national environment. Results-driven, innovative, intellectually curious, and comfortable with ambiguity. Experience with multi-national accounting, currency, and tax considerations is an asset. Supervisory experience and mentoring skills are a plus. Adaptability to the Foundation’s values and ability to engage with empathy and purpose. The annual salary for this position is within the range of $ 85,000 to $ 100,000 (CAD) commensurate with experience, skills, and internal equity considerations.
