Org. Setting and Reporting
The temporary position is located within the United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH). Pursuant to Security Council resolution 2793 (2025), UNSOH has been mandated to provide support; primarily to the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), the Haitian National Police (HNP), and the Haitian Armed Forces in the context of any joint operations with the GSF. Additionally, UNSOH is tasked with delivering technical assistance to the Organization of American States (OAS). Incumbents report administratively to the supervisor of the unit, under the overall guidance of the Chief Transport Section P-5. The temporary position is based in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and is located with the Transport Section under Service Delivery Management Pillar of the Mission Support Division.
Responsibilities
Within limits of delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
- Drives vehicles safely for the transport of authorized personnel and for the transport of general cargo goods.
- Makes deliveries of parcels, documents, etc., between the office and other offices and institutions, e.g. Ministries, Embassies, etc.
- Makes minor purchases and collect urgent purchases from local suppliers as requested.
- Drives vehicles safely for the transport of authorised personnel and general cargo goods. Collect goods from customs with due regard to customs regulations and formalities. May make or collect payment for goods.
- Meets official personnel at the airport and facilitates immigration and customs formalities as required.
- Deals effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors.
- Takes care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tyres, etc. perform minor repairs and arranges for other repairs and ensures that vehicle is kept clean and comprehensively insured.
- Performs VIP and Standby Driver duties
- Assists the workshop in the preparation of trucks for field trips, such as changing wheels, cleaning air filters, and general check-over
- Reports any damage or loss of vehicle tools.
- Logs fuel consumption, maintenance etc.
- Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of accident.
- Applies good judgment in the context of assignments given.

- PROFESSIONALISM: Knowledge of driving rules and regulations. Knowledge of the area and the current condition of roads and highways, security and safety awareness; familiarity with frequently traveled routes and routines of the more senior staff or the officers. Safely operates light passenger vehicles, Armoured vehicles, sedans, heavy and light 4X4 sports utility vehicles (SUV’s), ambulances and pick-up trucks, cargo and passenger van within the mission area, in a timely and efficient manner with respect to all time schedules of transportation plans and requirements. The incumbent mostly works outside the office driving staff to various locations or running errands for the mission. Movement on some poorly constructed public roads can be dangerous and noisy. First aid training is desirable. Work Experience A minimum of two (2) years of continuous driving experience with a safe driving record is required. Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, light passenger vehicles, sedans, heavy and light 4×4 sports utility vehicles (SUV’s), ambulances and pick-up trucks, cargo and passenger van is required. Experience in driving Armoured vehicles is required. Clean driving Record is required. Experience in the United Nations system or a comparable international organization is desirable.
