About IRMCT

The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) was established by the United Nations Security Council in 2010. It is responsible for carrying out a number of essential functions previously performed by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) after their closure.

Mission

To ensure that the legacy of the ICTR and ICTY endures by continuing their jurisdiction, rights, and obligations.

Vision

A world where international criminal justice is maintained and reinforced, ensuring accountability for serious violations of international humanitarian law.

Impact

The IRMCT upholds the principles of justice and accountability by ensuring the prosecution of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide, contributing to lasting peace and security in affected regions.
