About WasteAid
WasteAid is an independent UK charity that works with communities in low-income countries to tackle plastic pollution and waste, and to create green jobs. We focus on sharing waste management knowledge and skills to help people make a living from waste and keep their environment clean and healthy. We protect and improve the lives of children and communities by promoting circular economy solutions and sustainable waste management practices.
Overview (Job Summary)
We are now recruiting for an experienced Director of Programmes to lead WasteAid’s work to develop and oversee its programme strategy, secure crucial support from grant-making organisations and institutional funders, and drive growth by mapping global programmes to UK funding opportunities. This UK-based role (remote, hybrid, or Cambridge office option) will collaborate globally with international teams to ensure applications reflect real community needs and will lead the grant process from end to end, ensuring excellence in donor communication, reporting, and internal collaboration. If you are an exceptional relationship builder, experienced in international development with a focus on environmental programming, waste management, or circular economy, and looking for a pivotal role within a friendly, flexible, and supportive team, then this could be for you!
Role Description
Are you a relationship builder with a talent for persuasive writing and a passion for social impact? As our Director of Programmes, you’ll be the vital bridge between life-changing projects and the financial resources they need to thrive.
Working directly with our CEO, you’ll harness your creativity and strategic mindset to secure crucial support from grant-making organisations and institutional funders. Your detective skills will uncover perfect-match funding opportunities across our global programmes, while your compelling storytelling will transform complex projects into irresistible grant applications that funders can’t wait to support.
Day to day, you’ll nurture relationships that keep resources flowing to where they’re needed most. You’ll identify promising new funding sources, craft proposals that stand out in a competitive landscape, deepen existing partnerships to maximise support, and collaborate with colleagues to share powerful impact stories that demonstrate the tangible difference our funders make in communities worldwide.
You’ll be joining a dynamic, ambitious team with bold growth plans and a shared determination to reach more people in need. As we expand our funding portfolio and deepen our impact across the globe, your expertise and fresh perspectives will be invaluable in helping us achieve our vision. This is about connecting resources to real human impact across the world.
