Job Summary

The UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) is seeking a Field Security Associate for a temporary G-6 position based in Homs, Syria. Reporting to the Chief Security Adviser (CSA) for Syria, the incumbent will assist in the implementation of security operations and all matters relating to the safety and security of UN personnel in the area of responsibility. This includes collecting and sharing security information, liaising with host government security organizations, assisting with the UN Security Plan, monitoring security risk management measures, reporting incidents, and providing security briefings and administrative support. This is a temporary appointment available until 4 May 2026, with the possibility of extension, and is subject to local recruitment rules.

Remuneration: Salary is based on the official UN local salary scale for General Service staff (G-6) in Syria. (Estimated equivalent: USD 800 - USD 1,400 per month).

Responsibilities

Within limits of delegated authority, the Field Security Associate is responsible for the following duties:

  • Security Information & Coordination: Assist the CSA in collecting, updating, and communicating security information; Liaise with host government security organizations and other stakeholders; Help assess the local security situation and ensure adequate information gathering.
  • Security Plan: Assist in maintaining the Security Plan, including updating staff lists; Support actions during the implementation of the Security Plan; Participate in Area/Security Management Team meetings as needed.
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Assist with monitoring the implementation of security measures from the SRM process; Assist in reporting security incidents and preparing security reports (e.g., Security Incident Report, situation reports).
  • Training & Briefings: Provide support in organizing and conducting training courses, including security awareness sessions; Provide security orientations to newly arrived staff and visiting missions.
  • Other Security Tasks: Provide support in conducting security evaluations and advising on Residential Security Measures; Establish and maintain a warden system; Maintain liaison with commercial security companies.
  • General Administrative Assistance: Maintain correspondence files; Manage contact databases; Arrange appointments and meetings.

Education & Experience

Education: High school Diploma or equivalent is required.

Work Experience:

  • Seven (7) years of work experience in security, risk or disaster or emergency areas with security responsibilities is required.
  • The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
  • Prior experience with the UN system or an international NGO is desirable.
  • Experience in the use of radio communications system is desirable.

Languages

Fluency (oral and written) in English is required. Knowledge of another UN Official language is an advantage. Knowledge of local language (Arabic) is highly desirable.

Other Requirements

Possession of a valid Syrian driver's license is required.
