Duties and Responsibilities
The mandate of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is to promote inclusive economic, social and environmental development and support regional cooperation and integration in the Asia-Pacific region. ESCAP’s role as a regional development arm of the United Nations Secretariat is to support its membership, through its analytical, normative and technical cooperation work, to respond to the development priorities and changing needs of the Asia-Pacific region. The internship is located in the Capacity Development and Partnerships Section (CPS) of the Strategy and Programme Management Division (SPMD). The internship is for a duration of 3 months with possibility of extension to a maximum of 6 months, depending on the needs of the division. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the division/section to which they are assigned. The intern will assist the Capacity Development and Partnerships Section of the Strategy and Programme Management Division. Under the guidance of Professional Staff in the Section, main duties will be related to (but not limited to) the below tasks: 1. Contribute to the development and maintenance of monitoring tools and dashboards for donor profiling, visibility and outreach, and assist in conceptualizing and preparing data visualization products and tools, including infographics. 2. Assist in collecting, compiling and organizing data and performing descriptive statistical analysis on technical cooperation activities, financial contributions and expenditures across thematic and budget sources. 3. Support data assimilation and analysis of information on development partners and South-South cooperation initiatives, including through the use of artificial intelligence tools. 4. Coordinate and work closely with colleagues in the Capacity Development and Partnerships Section, the Planning and Budget Section, and across ESCAP divisions and offices in conducting research and data compilation. 5. Support outreach and information dissemination efforts related to events and knowledge products, including drafting information notes, summaries of events, and improving presentation, layout and graphic design of templates, guidelines and processes. 6. Assist in organizing logistics for events, such as managing registration, sending invitations, supporting exhibition activities and preparing follow-up communications. 7. Participate in and contribute to other day-to-day operational tasks of the section, such as responding to information requests, supporting the development of presentations and assisting with other tasks as required.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelors degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Masters or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelors, Masters or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Applicants must be proficient in using digital tools and platforms (e.g., MS Office Suite, collaboration tools, social media, and AI applications). English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
