Job Summary

As a Senior Protection Assistant, you will work as a specialized legal advisor within the Ministry of Labor and Social Security for the Commission for Restricted Visas and Refuge (CVRR). Your primary role will be to review case files, conduct detailed quality control, prepare technical legal evaluations recommending refugee status decisions, and draft the final resolutions. This position is critical to strengthening the eligibility process and the capacity of the competent authorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review assigned case files for detailed quality control.
  • Prepare technical legal evaluations recommending the granting or denial of refugee status.
  • Draft well-founded resolutions based on the complete case file.
  • Analyze and prepare evaluations for revocation appeals.
  • Review and process requests for withdrawal, renunciation, and travel permits.
  • Maintain a control of all procedures for statistical reporting.

Required Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Nationality: Must be a Costa Rican citizen or a permanent resident.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Law (Licenciatura en Derecho).
  • Professional License: Must be an active member of the Costa Rican Bar Association (Colegio de Abogados y Abogadas).
  • Experience: Minimum of one year of relevant professional experience after obtaining the university degree.
  • Languages: Fluency in Spanish and at least a B1 level of English.
  • Knowledge of International Refugee Law, Human Rights, and administrative law is required.
