ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

Centro de Trabajadores Unidos: United Workers Center (CTU) unites immigrant, Black, and Latine communities on Chicagos Southeast Side and south suburbs in the struggle to end racial, economic, and gender injustice. We challenge the roots of inequality from exploitation in the workplace to disinvestment in our neighborhoods and build collective power to transform our communities from the ground up.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Organizing Director leads CTUs grassroots efforts to empower immigrant and low-wage workers, build community leadership, and advance economic and social justice through strategic campaigns. The Organizing Director will collaborate with the Organizing Team to do outreach to low-wage workers and community members, coordinate campaign strategy and develop organizational leadership activities. They will be committed to building strong relationships with organizational members and leaders in order to build power. They will also be responsible for developing and implementing local workplace campaigns that advance social, economic and racial justice. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to foster coordination and collaboration in community settings.

This position reports to the Associate Director. This position has a 3-month probation period and will be on-site.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead grassroots organizing to empower immigrant and low-wage workers on Chicagos Southeast Side and South Suburbs
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community members, leaders, and partner organizations
  • Recruit, supervise, train, and mentor organizers, volunteers, and emerging leaders
  • Support leadership development of CTU members through training and engagement
  • Develop and oversee organizing plans and campaigns advancing workers rights and immigration justice
  • Collaborate across CTU programs to increase outreach, alignment, and membership growth
  • Track, evaluate, and report on organizing activities using databases and reporting systems
  • Represent CTU at public events, coalition meetings, and policy forums
  • Participate in required staff, organizer, and organizational meetings
  • Support fundraising efforts
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Were seeking candidates who excel in relationship-building, are self-motivated, and have strong organizing and management skills.

  • 5+ years of experience in community organizing, labor organizing, or social justice campaigns, preferably with immigrant or low-wage worker communities
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience
  • Proven experience leading and managing teams of organizers, volunteers, or community leaders
  • Experience designing and implementing successful grassroots campaigns
  • Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving, project management & analytical skills
  • Innovative, creative and strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication ability
  • Technology proficiency
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Drivers license and reliable access to a vehicle
